There’s a reason “Sylvia” has not been better known, in spite of a deliciously danceable, 143-year-old score by Léo Delibes. He has also gifted his dancers with a good range of meaty roles that they attack with gusto. This time, he has completely reshaped a stodgy historical piece into something unique and engaging from start to finish.
